GLOBALIZATIONIn which additional jurisdictions can I practice?Before QLTT International began offering the QLTT exam in the US in 2002, US attorneys interested in practicing in the UK had to expend significant time and resources to go to England to take the exam. Now, you can do it domestically, and prepare at home or at your office. Passing the QLTT "conversion" examination allows you to become a Solicitor in England, Wales, and opens the door to practice in the following jurisdictions*:
*NOTE: In some instances, further academic and/or practical legal training may be required. Minimum periods of residency may also apply.
How would I benefit by qualifying as a Solicitor?
Excerpts from a memorandum by a past QLTT delegate presented to his Firm in support of his efforts to become qualified as a British Solicitor: NEW! Memorandum: "Why Qualifying as an English Solicitor would be beneficial for the Firm, my practice... Can I practice in the European Union?In February 1998 the European Parliament and Council passed the Establishment of Lawyers' Directive 98/5/EC entitling EU (European Union) lawyers to practice law on a permanent basis in any other Member State under their home State professional title. This Directive was implemented in the United Kingdom on 22nd May 2000. This directive applies to European nationals only. So if you are a licensed American attorney who has passed the QLTT examination AND a European national, you will also have the right to practice in member States in accordance with each country's regulations, some of which include: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Spain and Portugal. |
